Bantry Bay: Things to do

Category General News

A guide to finding restaurants and beaches in Bantry Bay

Bantry Bay is home to some of the finest real estate in South Africa, as well as some incredible restaurants and fabulous beaches. Interestingly, Bantry Bay was originally named Botany Bay because of the botanical garden planted in the area for medicinal herb cultivation. The name changed during World War I.

You can easily spend a few hours exploring the quaint area, so here’s a handy little list on where you can eat, relax and have a couple of refreshing cocktails:

The Islands Restaurant

While in Bantry Bay, you are likely to be overcome with an urge to splurge - The Island Restaurant is the perfect place to do this. Situated at the President Hotel, this picturesque venue is ideal for lunch and dinner, offering all patrons a variety of dishes from their à la carte menu. If you are in the mood for a hearty breakfast, swing by for their daily breakfast buffet which includes a fabulous selection of pastries, fresh fruits and a range of hot food.

Saunders Rock Beach

Driving along the lengthy coastline, you'll definitely be overcome with sea-envy. Take a drive to Saunders Rock Beach for a splash in the bouncy blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is situated off the coast of Bantry Bay, between Sea Point and Camps Bay. An interesting fact about the beautiful sandy beach of Saunders Rock lies in its name - it comes from the natural presence of granite in the rocks on the shore. Being a secluded sandy paradise, you'll definitely want to spend a few hours here soaking up the sun.

Drive along the coast
Yes - drive through the area. This is one of our favourite pastimes when we travel through Bantry Bay. Explore every nook and cranny, witness the breath-taking views, the opulent houses, the magnificent cars and, of course, the cool Atlantic breeze blowing past you. Exploring is the best way to find those secret spots that capture your heart. Spend an hour driving through the streets - it’s a simple activity you definitely will not regret!
