Cape Town named the Best City for Opportunity in Africa
Category General News
In a recent PwC report, “Cities Of Opportunity”, Cape Town flourishes with a leading transport system, a business-friendly environment and of course its unrivalled natural beauty. While the report emphasises that, Cities Of Opportunity includes places of travel or work, we believe that it is the people, the businesses and the lifestyle that continues to make Cape Town the best city for opportunities in Africa.
"The cities that will succeed in the future are those that can provide a balance between economic and physical security, nurtured aspiration and quality of life and environment." - PwC Africa
Cape Town continues to welcome millions of tourists each year and has become an attractive investment opportunity for both locals and internationals looking for a second or third home. In addition to the continued investor confidence in areas like the Atlantic Seaboard, The CBD, and its surrounds, the new successes can be attributed to the cooperation between the private and public sectors.
“The city is well connected, efficient and is becoming known as a continental tech hub. From a bilateral UK/SA perspective, due to a long history of engagement, both socially and commercially, the ease of doing business is significant. It’s also an easy sell to staff who can experience a quality of life amongst Cape Town’s beaches, mountains and wine farms that is hard to match in either Africa or the UK!” - David Dawson, Chief Executive, British Chamber of Business in Southern Africa
One of the critical factors in making the Mother City open for opportunity is the revenue collection and capital budget spending which are near 100%. Additionally, the city is rated as having both the cleanest audit (by the Auditor General) and the best service delivery (by citizens) of any South African metro.
With the numerous awards that the city keeps raking in, it comes as no surprise that President of the Cape Chamber, Janine Myburgh, claimed that the most significant advantage that Cape Town has is the way it connects with the world. Besides being a growing global tech hub, the city connects with visitors and locals through its natural beauty and unique quality of life. The outsized number of start-ups and venture capital firms and the rate of house price inflation on the Atlantic seaboard are a testament to this.
Development in the Atlantic Seaboard has continued to be an investors paradise and continues to contribute to the high quality of life in the area. As the Berman Brothers continue to illuminate the Atlantic Seaboard with developments like The Kings, The Estate, Strand Beach and the first-of-its-kind in Africa, The Portfolio Cafe, it is, therefore, no surprise that Cape Town is a city of opportunity.
