Three Anchor Bay
Category General News
Welcome to Three Anchor Bay; an up-and-coming area on Cape Town’s trendy Atlantic Seaboard. This beautiful seaside suburb is close to top-quality restaurants, cool cafés, urban parks and the top end of the Sea Point promenade. Although it is often overlooked, this small area of beachfront has a great property market.
Where is Three Anchor Bay?
Three Anchor Bay borders three other major suburbs on the Atlantic Seaboard, which is why it is often forgotten about. It seamlessly acts as the area between Mouille Point, Green Point and Sea Point - and at just 0.3 square kilometres, it is no wonder that visitors assume it to be part of one of the other suburbs. It is distinguished by its single beach cove, surrounded by the walls of the snaking promenade. Real estate in the area is characterised by medium-sized apartment blocks, with little-to-no freehold houses. The name was first mentioned in 1661 and is believed to refer to the anchors that secured defense chains across the bay at the time.
Things to see and do in Three Anchor Bay
The little beach is very popular with sea kayakers, who use the sheltered cove as a safe point from which to paddle out. The cove does have a sandy beach, although it is not commonly used by sunbathers.
The area is within walking distance of many of Mouille Point and Green Point’s restaurants, bars and attractions. The popular 18-hole Putt-Putt course on the promenade is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon on a sunny day, and adjacent to this is the Serendipity Maze - a hexagonal maze meandering through the thick coastal bush. A little further up the promenade is the Blue Train Park, which is a great spot for children to play and to ride the miniature blue train.
On the eastern side of Three Anchor Bay lies the Green Point Park, which is a great place for families to have a picnic or to go for a jog. The park borders the Metropolitan Golf Club, the Green Point tennis courts and the Virgin Active Health Club - so there is no shortage of sporting facilities and ways to keep fit.
The southern side of Three Anchor Bay is home to a large grass patch of the promenade, upon which tourists and locals alike can find curious and creative attractions such as the giant pair of stainless steel glasses and the outdoor gym. For residents with children, the only school in Three Anchor Bay is Ellerton Primary School, but there are a variety of other institutions within a short distance.
Purchasing property in Three Anchor Bay is a good choice when it comes to centrality and proximity to amenities. The three large surrounding suburbs offer residents everything they need and the lifestyle in the area is the same; perfect for active individuals, couples and young working professionals.
